The Coffee Loving Whalen's Wedding! (Casey & Jordan's Wedding at Venue 650)
After a year of not-so-patiently waiting, it was hard for all of us to believe that the day had finally come: Our coffee-loving, cat-worshipping love bugs were FINALLY tying the knot (literally, as you will see shortly). Casey and Jordan were a blessing in our lives from the day we met them, and their unwavering faith in our artistic vision made their wedding day like a blank canvas for us to truly paint a masterpiece on!
Our bride was able to get ready on site at the uniquely charming Venue 650in a spacious and fun bridal suite. With only her mother, mother-in-law, and sister present, the morning was relaxed and intimate. Jordan never once lost her cool, and there were times when she was the voice of reason even when the wedding day chaos threatened to overwhelm those around her. In other words, she was a calm and collected angel, and her stunning, impeccably fitted gown certainly made her look the part. Trusting our advice to optimize their photographic experience, Jordan and Casey left plenty of time in their pre-ceremony timeline for portraits. So we coordinated a chance to sneak our bride from her suite into the breathtaking courtyard for some naturally lit bridal and bridal party portraits.
Our groom on the other hand arrived on scene with an adorable case of pre-wedding jitters (carrying over from the previous night’s pressure of addressing finishing touches); but his excitement in anticipation for his “First Touch” with his bride trumped it all.
After we had photographed the bride in all of her wedding day splendor, we staged her for her First Touch with her groom. For those of you who don’t know, a First Touch is a modification to the First Look where a couple gets the best of both worlds by sharing a private pre-ceremony moment together without actually seeing each other. As Jordan waited calmly with her back turned to the courtyard entrance, we led Casey in with his eyes closed. He trusted us wholeheartedly, even after a small run-in with an unsupervised camera lens (which left only a tiny egg on his forehead, Chanels fault)…! We set our couple up back to back, and then we let the magic unfold. They grasped hands, giggled, and checked each other’s Nervous Scale while we circled them inconspicuously to snag some shots of the momen
With the jitters subsiding and the excitement building, we were ready for a ceremony! The ceremony was held in the ultra industrial indoor space, where a chandelier graced the altar with a contrasting elegant touch. Casey and Jordan were married by their pastor, just before tying a 3-corded knot that represented their unity with each other and with Christ.
We escorted the couple and their family to the courtyard for some naturally lit family formal portraits. And then it was time for the moment we had all REALLY been waiting for: Just Married Portraits! Our newly weds said no to nothing and allowed us to guide them all over the courtyard, outside of the venue for some shadow play on the bare exterior walls, and finally we even snuck them off-property for a grand sunset finale on the dock down the block. They even graciously stepped out on their reception for just a few after-dark portraits in the courtyard, bathed in chandelier and market lighting. I don’t think they were mad at the chance to dance quietly beneath the stars! Although, when they did return to the reception dance floor, Jordan and her crew knew how to tear it up!
With an extremely versatile venue and a menu that consisted of Chick Fil A and donuts, Jordan and Casey’s wedding day was the perfect blend of industrial elegance; of casual and classic. This fusion really put an emphasis on the love and joy surrounding their union, rather than distractions of over-decoration or formality. Although we’re mourning the fact that their day has come and gone, we are over the moon that Jordan and Casey are now embarking on a beautiful future, walking in the light of God and surrounded by caffeine, kittens, and (some splendid day) kids. Congratulations to this amazing couple, and thank you for including us in your day!
